Magnolia ist eines der wenigen Content-Management-Systeme am Markt, was eine ausgezeichnete UX für Redakteure mit keinerlei Einschränkungen bzgl. der Entwicklung des Frontends kombiniert. Egal, ob klassisch, hybrid oder headless... Magnolia macht alles möglich, ohne etwas Verbiegen zu müssen.

Leider ist kein Drag & Drop von Content-Modulen zwischen verschiedenen Content-Bereichen (sogenannten Areas) möglich.

Welche Probleme löst Du mit dem Produkt?

Content-Management für Websites und Portale. Der größte Vorteil von Magnolia ist, dass die Websites komplett von Magnolia "abgekoppelt" werden können (=headless), so dass für die Auslieferung nur minimale Resourcen benötigt werden,

An Magnolia gefällt mir vor allem die vielseitige Anwendbarkeit. Mit Magnolia als Backendsystem haben wir für unsere Kunden schon verschiedenste Herausforderungen gelöst. Es ist flexibel und grossartig für die Integration von verschiedensten Drittsystemen. Für die Autorinnen und Autoren ist es einfach zu bedienen und bietet verschiedenste Features out of the box. Das Autoreninterface ist sehr übersichtlich und gut strukturiert und lässt sich einfach auf die Zielgruppen anpassen.

Was gefällt Dir nicht?

In meinen 4 Jahren, in welchen ich auf Basis von Magnolia CMS Projekte begleite, sind mir keinen wirklich nennenswerten Punkte aufgefallen, die mir nicht gefallen. Meist sind das Kleinigkeiten.

Wir implementieren Magnolia bei unseren Kunden für verschiedene Zwecke. Dies reicht von der Harmonisierung einer heterogenen CMS-Landschaft auf ein einheitliches CMS bis zur Nutzung von Magnolia als Backend für eine Progressive Web App (PWA). Meistens setzen unsere Kunden Magnolia dafür ein, Webseiten für mehrere Brands und Länder zu betreiben.

Als Software-Entwickler gefällt mir bei Magnolia CMS vor allem die große Flexibilität. Magnolia bietet vielfältige Wege, um die bereits vorhandene Funktionalität zu ändern oder zu erweitern, dass diese den Kundenwünschen entspricht. Und gerade das macht in Magnolia Spaß.

Wenn man wie ich bereits seit mehr als 15 Jahren mit Magnolia CMS arbeitet, kann es eigentlich nicht viel geben, was einem zutiefst missfällt. :-) Es sind eher Kleinigkeiten, die aber meistens in einem der nächsten Releases verbessert werden.

Mit Magnolia CMS stelle ich unseren Kunden ein System bereit, mit dem Inhalte auf einfachste Art und Weise für eine Website bereitgestellt werden können. Das ist für mich der entscheidende Unterschied zu anderen Content-Management-Systemen, der auch von unseren Kunden erkannt wird.

The documentation is sometimes unclear. The tool is simple, but it can sometimes be difficult to understand without contacting the manufacturer.

Magnolia makes it easy for me to work with different development groups, each of which has its own deployments. It allows each development group to have sufficient autonomy to create their own sites and to globally control all deployments across the different sites. The main benefit is rapid implementation.

I like at Magnolia that it is a easy tool for client who don't have so much experience and knowledge. The client can do the content editing on her own and we can support where she needs help. Also there are a lot of templates and widgets that can be used to created new pages very quick. And the tool is enough for smaller pages where we don't need a very fancy customized page.

The only bad thing about Magnolia is that you can't follow every client wish when they want to have some customized option when we only work with existing widgets.

The WYSIWIG page editor offering the same user experience regardless the app being standard or headless. The Content Apps and REST API frameworks allow for the product the go beyond just website management and act as a centralized platform for any kind of data.

The lack of build-in standard component/page template library that could allow to bootstrap a quick prototype in a no-code manner. The performance and user experience of the Page editor degrades with growing number of components on the page. Especially when using nested areas.

The best thing about Magnolia for me is that it is very customisable, both from admincentral interface and backend point of view. Without a doubt, another of its strong points is that it is totally java based. Finally, another of its best points is that for people who use it as a contributor of information or as a user, it is quite intuitive and easy to move through the different applications and content.

One of the things I dislike is that the documentation is often lacking information. There are certain areas that are either glossed over or not even mentioned at all.

Additionally, with the self-hosted version, you have the ability to better understand potential issues and resolve them independently.

Many clients complain about the lack of a SaaS version, which makes it difficult to market the product. Additionally, simplifying editor customization would be necessary by removing Vaadin, introducing APIs, and adopting more modern and functional frameworks like React or Vue. Fortunately, this last point should finally be in progress. Some connectors for third-party integrations are still very immature and often require a complete overhaul.

Die Möglichkeit, Inhalte zwischen Auftritten auf verschiedene Arten zu teilen, ermöglicht leichtgewichtiges, effizientes Content Management.

Performance und Stabilität könnten hie und da besser sein. Auch Fehlermeldungen sind nicht immer so eindeutig wie gewünscht.

Unser Kundenkreis ist sehr heterogen - und reicht vom großen Konzern bis hin zum lokalen Akteur. Und entsprechend vielseitig sind auch die Anforderungen an deren Web-Auftritte - obs da um regulatorische Dinge, Schnittstellen zur Unternehmens-IT geht, die Integrationen eigener Anwendungen oder regionalisierte Content-Ausspielung.

Die intuitive Benutzeroberfläche ist perfekt für uns als Team, das aus unterschiedlichen Disziplinen besteht. Egal, ob technikaffin oder nicht, Magnolia lässt sich leicht bedienen. Das Drag-and-Drop-Feature ist besonders hilfreich. Dank der Headless CMS-Funktion können wir Inhalte nicht nur für Websites, sondern auch für Apps, Social Media und sogar IoT-Geräte bereitstellen. Jede Kundenanforderung ist anders. Mit Magnolia können wir Websites und Inhalte so bauen, wie unsere Kunden sie brauchen, ohne ständig nach Workarounds oder neuen Lösungen suchen zu müssen.

Die Benutzeroberfläche mag für erfahrene Nutzer logisch sein, aber für neue Kollegen ist sie oft ein Alptraum. Es dauert ewig, bis man sich zurechtfindet, weil einfach so viele Funktionen vorhanden sind, viele davon sind für einfache Aufgaben gar nicht relevant. Wenn mal etwas nicht funktioniert, ist der technische Support zwar hilfreich, aber manchmal dauert es länger, als mir lieb ist.

Was gefällt Dir am besten?

Magnolia bietet eine Headless Ansatz. Für die moderne Softwareentwicklung perfekt. Zudem ist das CMS Modular aufgebaut und sehr benutzerfreundlich. Spannend ist auch, dass der Stack mit dem Magnolia geschrieben wurde in Java ist. Damit ist Magnolia einer der wenigen CMS die diesen Stack nutzen und durchaus bekannt sind.

Was gefällt Dir nicht?

Es braucht eine Weile bis man mit dem System vertraut ist. Zudem eignet es sich eher nicht für kleinere Projekte. Zudem kennt man heutzutage vermutlich eher weniger Java im Bereich CMS.

Welche Probleme löst Du mit dem Produkt?

Wir haben es als CMS Lösung genutzt. Dies war vom Kunden so entschieden, bzw kam dieser schon mit der Lösung.

Magnolia schafft es, die Möglichkeiten einer umfangreichen Enterprise DXP mit Joy of Use für die Nutzer zu verbinden. Die Einarbeitung ist das System ist intuitiv und einfach. Dank Light Development ist auch das Onboarding von Entwicklern besonders niederschwellig.

Mit tieferem Einstieg in das System kann die Komplexität steigen. Dies bringt entsprechend auch einen gewissen Anspruch an Nutzer und Entwickler mit sich.

Welche Probleme löst Du mit dem Produkt?

Die Erstellung und Pflege von hochwertigem Content ist schnell und einfach. Schon out of the Box bringt das System sehr viele Möglichkeiten, welche je nach Anforderungen fast unbegrenzt erweiterbar und individualisierbar sind.

Dank flexibel gestaltbarer Content-Apps, integrierter APIs, einem fein abgestuften Rechte- und Rollensystem sowie einer stetig verbesserten Benutzerfreundlichkeit für Redakteure ist Magnolia ein solider Player im Enterprise Segment. Zusätzlich bieten Module wie Live Copy oder die Personalisierungs-Features einen entsprechenden Mehrwert.

Incubator Module sind mit Vorsicht zu genießen, da sie nicht ausgereift sind und von Seiten Magnolia keinen offiziellen Support erhalten. Bei Bugs ist der Support über Jira manchmal etwas träge und langwierig, man kommt jedoch ans Ziel. Die allgemeine Dokumentation ist nicht immer hilfreich, hat sich jedoch mit den neueren Versionen (ab 6.2) etwas verbessert.

Welche Probleme löst Du mit dem Produkt?

Mit Magnolia sind hoch skalierbare Multi-Tenant (E-Commerce) Plattformen mit komplexeren Content-Anforderungen solide umsetzbar. Einer der größten Vorteile sehe ich in der hohen Flexibilität bei der technischen Umsetzung als auch bei der Content-Strukturierung. Somit können nahezu alle Wünsche & Anforderungen unserer Kunden erfüllt werden.

Die Dokumentation liefert aber auch alle Informationen, um das System selbständig auf zu setzen.

Das Modul-System hilft, Inhalte an mehreren Stellen wieder zu verwenden.

The pages that are built look reasonably professional. However, compared to comparable CMS platforms, I can't think of any major competitive advantages.

The separation of content areas and sections as well as text and image assets leads to unusually complicated workflows. The automatic scaling and loading times of images is definitely not well thought out. Last but not least, the platform has proved to be very maintenance-intensive in our company.

As Magnolia has lots and lots of modules, many have the incubator status, it is hard to predict when it becomes a stable official module. another point is the pace for headless compatibilities in some cases.

Ecommerce solutions. Magnolia provides a extensive OOB list for this, allowing to focus more to the business cases and less to the technical aspects of it.

The ready to use API`s which make it easy to connect Magnolia to various sources. It`s easy to manage and has all the functions I would expact from a DAM System. It can be integrated in self coded projects like our data platform and as a standard software we get all the updates and patches we need to keep it safe and stable.

It`s the best DAM I ever used and I use DAM software for more than twenty years. Our own and extern developers are happy with the interfaces they can easily use to integrate Magnolia in their project architecture. The continuous delivery of updates and patches minimize the operational rist of the project, so the our developers can concentrate to increase the value of customer experience.

Managing more than 120000 digital assets with more than 7 Million Versions. We have exact dates to depublish digital assets and also to publish newer versions on a special date and time. All that is very important to us to meet legal requirements ant to keep our customers up to date in a difficult and complex kind of business.

The large number of apps and the simple language handling in particular make editing content much easier and faster for us. Training new colleagues in particular is now much easier, as most of the steps are self-explanatory. In addition, there is a lot of documentation and training on specific problems. We came from a CMS system where most of the programming and customisation could only be carried out by external service providers. With Magnolia, we now have a system that we can maintain and develop ourselves.

Individual programming and dependencies could be implemented even more easily and the system could be structured in an even more modular way - e.g. copy and paste of components on different pages.

Multilingual company websites can be maintained both centrally and decentrally without drifting apart visually. Magnolia now combines many functions that previously had to be maintained in other systems into one screen.
