Seitenaufbau mit Seitentypen und vielen möglichen Paragraphen als Liste. Klare Führung für Benutzer, was wo einzugeben ist resp. eingegeben werden kann. Aus technischer Perspektive zeichnet sich Magnolia durch seine Offenheit und Möglichkeit für Integrationen (Drittsysteme, eigener Code, etc.) aus.

Was gefällt Dir nicht?

Relativ komplexer Basis-Setup (insbesondere bei Integration ins eigene Build-System) und wegen Java nur beschränkt für den nicht-professionellen Bereich geeignet.

Welche Probleme löst Du mit dem Produkt?

Bereitstellen der CMS-Funktionalität, die dann mit Eigenentwicklungen ergänzt werden. Als Headless-CMS ist Magnolia auch als Autoren-System für eigene Anwendungen geeignet, die ein klassisches CMS nicht abdecken kann. Magnolia kann auch bestens als "klassisches" professionelles CMS verwendet werden.

Flexible Einsatzmöglichkeiten wie Headless, nicht Headless sowie Hybrid. Fokus sowohl auf Developer-Experience als auch auf Author/Merketing-Experience.

Dokumentation könnte teils mehr konkrete Beispiele für, meiner Meinung nach, Standard-Probleme/Anwendungsfälle, beinhalten. Hinweis: die Mailing-Liste ist hier aber immer ein guter Anlaufpunkt, hier antworten auch Magnolia Mitarbeiter, schnell.

Welche Probleme löst Du mit dem Produkt?

Momentan verwenden wir Magnolia je nach Kundenanforderung sowohl als rein Headless CMS zur Datenablage und Datenabruf als auch als klassisches CMS zum erstellen redaktioneller Seiten. Diese sowohl wirklich readaktionell erstellt, als auch dynamische Templates, bspw Landingpages für diverse Themen.

Magnolia bietet eine einfache Menüführung an und lässt sich nach kurzer Einarbeitungszeit sehr gut bedienen. Die Funktionen der Standard-Apps bieten bereits eine breite Möglichkeit für ein gutes Website-Setup. Sollte es an etwas fehlen, können durch die vorhandene Flexibilität auch easy neue, individuelle Apps hinzugefügt werden. Auch der Support seitens Magnolia läuft top.

Was gefällt Dir nicht?

Die Pflege der Userrechte könnte teilweise etwas intuitiver sein. Das Konzept der Mehrsprachigen Website ist insgesamt ganz gut umgesetzt, allerdings recht fehleranfällig, da man sich sehr schnell in der Sprache/Land verklickt. Teilweise lange Ladezeiten oder zum Teil wildes hin und herspringen der Seite nach Speichern von Komponenten macht das tägliche Arbeiten manchmal etwas mühsam.

Welche Probleme löst Du mit dem Produkt?

Wir können unsere Website für über 10 Länder und 7 Sprachen mit Magnolia darstellen und eine gute Nutzung und Pflege für Editoren gewährleisten. Dieses Sprachenkonzept ist nicht ganz einfach, trotz zum Teil hoher Fehleranfälligkeit im Backend mit Magnolia und Funktionen wie der Placeholder-App dennoch gut umsetzbar. Die Flexibilität des CMS hat uns in den vergangenen Jahren sehr hilfreiche individuelle Apps und Komponenten entwickeln lassen.

Es wäre wünschenswert, dass die Redaktionsoberfläche besser auf Mehrsprachigkeit ausgelegt wird. Es ist bis jetzt nicht möglich, mehrere Sprachen parallel im Editor zu bearbeiten, was die redaktionelle Arbeit erschwert. Magnolia hat zwar schon vor Jahren angekündigt, daran zu arbeiten, aber es hat sich bis heute noch nichts getan.

Wir lösen derzeit mit Magnolia die Umsetzung der Websites aller unserer Tochtergesellschaften (60) mit ca. 30 unterschiedlichen Sprachen. Vorteil dabei ist, dass wir zentral auf Produkt- und Projektbasisdaten für alle Websites zugreifen können.

Die Kombination aus, den Standardfall einfach und schnell umsetzen zu können und trotzdem gleichzeitig für komplexe Fälle alle Anpassungsmöglichkeiten zu haben. So ist es auch ohne großen Aufwand möglich die Standard Apps zu erweitern und mit zusätzlichen Funktionen auszustatten oder die bestehenden zu anzupassen. Darüber hinaus kann man im Backend sehr einfach auch andere Datenquellen anbinden und somit eine Integration zu anderen Systemen herstellen.

Was gefällt Dir nicht?

Migrationen auf neue Releases sind teilweise recht anspruchsvoll und zeitintensiv. Insbesondere bei Verwendung von Blossom, einer der Möglichkeiten Templates und Dialoge zu definieren, ergeben sich immer wieder zusätzliche Probleme im Zuge von Migrationen und auch im Zusammenspiel mit anderen Modulen wie zum Beispiel Content Translation Extended module.

Welche Probleme löst Du mit dem Produkt?

Wir nutzen Magnolia zur Implementierung meist größerer Websites, meistens mehrsprachig und in mehreren Ländern. Mit dem Multisite Modul ist das gut handhabbar verschiedenste Länderwebsites und Sprachen in einem System zu betreuen. Oftmals binden wir auch weitere Systeme direkt in Magnolia wenn mehrere Quellen für die Website benötigt werden.

Magnolia ist eines der wenigen Content-Management-Systeme am Markt, was eine ausgezeichnete UX für Redakteure mit keinerlei Einschränkungen bzgl. der Entwicklung des Frontends kombiniert. Egal, ob klassisch, hybrid oder headless... Magnolia macht alles möglich, ohne etwas Verbiegen zu müssen.

Leider ist kein Drag & Drop von Content-Modulen zwischen verschiedenen Content-Bereichen (sogenannten Areas) möglich.

Content-Management für Websites und Portale. Der größte Vorteil von Magnolia ist, dass die Websites komplett von Magnolia "abgekoppelt" werden können (=headless), so dass für die Auslieferung nur minimale Resourcen benötigt werden,

An Magnolia gefällt mir vor allem die vielseitige Anwendbarkeit. Mit Magnolia als Backendsystem haben wir für unsere Kunden schon verschiedenste Herausforderungen gelöst. Es ist flexibel und grossartig für die Integration von verschiedensten Drittsystemen. Für die Autorinnen und Autoren ist es einfach zu bedienen und bietet verschiedenste Features out of the box. Das Autoreninterface ist sehr übersichtlich und gut strukturiert und lässt sich einfach auf die Zielgruppen anpassen.

In meinen 4 Jahren, in welchen ich auf Basis von Magnolia CMS Projekte begleite, sind mir keinen wirklich nennenswerten Punkte aufgefallen, die mir nicht gefallen. Meist sind das Kleinigkeiten.

Wir implementieren Magnolia bei unseren Kunden für verschiedene Zwecke. Dies reicht von der Harmonisierung einer heterogenen CMS-Landschaft auf ein einheitliches CMS bis zur Nutzung von Magnolia als Backend für eine Progressive Web App (PWA). Meistens setzen unsere Kunden Magnolia dafür ein, Webseiten für mehrere Brands und Länder zu betreiben.

Als Software-Entwickler gefällt mir bei Magnolia CMS vor allem die große Flexibilität. Magnolia bietet vielfältige Wege, um die bereits vorhandene Funktionalität zu ändern oder zu erweitern, dass diese den Kundenwünschen entspricht. Und gerade das macht in Magnolia Spaß.

Wenn man wie ich bereits seit mehr als 15 Jahren mit Magnolia CMS arbeitet, kann es eigentlich nicht viel geben, was einem zutiefst missfällt. :-) Es sind eher Kleinigkeiten, die aber meistens in einem der nächsten Releases verbessert werden.

Furthermore there are a few areas that could be improved, for example, the removal of the double-click edit shortcut in version 6.3 made the editing process slightly less immediate or performance issues in editing mode and only in headless version

Reliance on JCR seems to be a little bit too "legacy". Especially in the context of cloud-native deployments. Headless support was retrofitted into the existing product so it's not ideal.

Magnolia can be used for a wide variety of projects. It has a lot of extension points and it has some handy security benefits. Being based on Java there is rich ecosystem of libraries that can be used to extend the core with custom functionality. The content editor experience is good.

It is slow to start up and work with. Although it can be used for a wide variety of projects, it is almost never the 'best fit' for any project as many of the features are limited to specific use cases. Magnolia tries to be modern, but has to drag the weight of its history with it. It is not MACH at its core and it probably never will be. Updating an existing application has always been cumbersome in the past, as there is no semantic versioning and it isn't always clear that an update contains breaking changes.

The in-page editing of Magnolia is great for our clients that have content driven web applications. We also successfully run a platform with 30 websites, each with their own set of users and publication rules and (decoupled) frontends.

I like how easy it is to use, I train people how to use it and they get it very quickly because it is simple to use. The fact that is WYSIWYG makes it great to use as you can see what you are building. It is also great that you can publish pages instantly once everything has been approved.

The worst thing about Magnolia for me is that it doesn't have an undo button, so if I accidentally delete something on the page, I need to rebuild it as I cannot get it back... Magnolia's argument was that you roll back to different versions however this can only be achieved if you publish the page and no one is going to make one change and publish the page and then go back to make another change and publish again...

We moved most of our sites over to Magnolia from a very outdated CMS and we have realised how much better a CMS can be and so much easier to use.

As a business partner developing solutions for our customer, I like to have a nice Admincentral where they can create content. I really like the WYSIWYG approach and the customizability. Moreover is Java based, which meets our stack.

I don't like documentation, sometimes I find it a bit lacking of code examples, which might help a lot for customization, without the need of asking often for support.

Due to the possibility of great customization, sometimes upgrades are potentially cumbersome. However, by gaining good knowledge of the product this remains always doable.

We make marketing departments work more efficiently. We manage to optimize and minimize the time between idea and the shipping of this idea to the customer. By migrating towards Magnolia, our customers also have a wider range of out of the box functionalities available than they had on their previous solution. Also, we manage to surpress their current high costs (upgrades and maintenance related) by onboarding to Magnolia.

Working with Light Modules makes development and deployment of changes really straightforward; for most situations, for us, developing in Java is not required, but when it is, the modular monolith approach makes it quite straightforward. Support, on the few occasions needed, has been fantastic; responsive, knowledgable and able to resolve issues appropriately. Nearly everything is customisable or extensible so, unlike a lot of COTS products, we don't have to jump through too many hoops to customise to our user workflows, or even reject them as not supported.

JCR - Working with a heirarchical data structure is great for organising content for CMS users but has proven to be the most challenging element to work with when customising.

Magnolia replaced Umbraco for us; having great vendor support with regular updates and relatively easy integrations with in-house systems has proven to be a much better experience. Also, being able to write custom light modules, as SPA's, allows us to adhere to our architectural principle of loose coupling Frontend and Backend systems.

Both headless and traditional CMS supported: headless delivery via API's or classical CMS so very flexible in delivering content across multiple channels. Enterprise ready, good performance compared with the resources needed. Powerful admin interface. Flexible role/permissions architecture.

Not suited for small websites. Smaller community and developer resources although the latest Magnolia Academy content is fixing that (for paid users).

I like at Magnolia that it is a easy tool for client who don't have so much experience and knowledge. The client can do the content editing on her own and we can support where she needs help. Also there are a lot of templates and widgets that can be used to created new pages very quick. And the tool is enough for smaller pages where we don't need a very fancy customized page.

The only bad thing about Magnolia is that you can't follow every client wish when they want to have some customized option when we only work with existing widgets.

The WYSIWIG page editor offering the same user experience regardless the app being standard or headless. The Content Apps and REST API frameworks allow for the product the go beyond just website management and act as a centralized platform for any kind of data.

The lack of build-in standard component/page template library that could allow to bootstrap a quick prototype in a no-code manner. The performance and user experience of the Page editor degrades with growing number of components on the page. Especially when using nested areas.
