What did you not like?

Which problems are you solving with the product?

What did you like?

What did you not like?

Which problems are you solving with the product?

What did you like?

What did you not like?

Which problems are you solving with the product?

What did you like?

What did you not like?

Which problems are you solving with the product?

What did you like?

What did you not like?

Which problems are you solving with the product?

- CMS für das gesamte Unternehmen - Headless - Klassisch - Konfiguration von Webanwendungen (über Dialoge oder Content-Apps im Backend) - Digitales Asset Management - FAQ-Verwaltung - Lastverteilite Content-Verteilung - Umsetzung von Kundenspezifischen Seiten und Deduplizierung von Gemeinsamkeiten

What did you like?

I appreciate Magnolia CMS’s robust architecture that enables high flexibility in customization, the light-module approach that accelerates development, and built-in low-code capabilities that let us simply decorate and adapt without heavy coding

What did you not like?

While Magnolia CMS offers many enterprise strengths, I found it heavy to deploy and maintain with long start-up/build times, frequent releases to track, and a cost structure that feels even too premium for large companies.

Which problems are you solving with the product?

We are building enterprise-level websites that require extensive system integrations, and by using Magnolia CMS on its PaaS offering we focus entirely on website development while the infrastructure, operations and hosting are managed for us.

What did you like?

- Flexible & hybrid architecture: Magnolia supports both traditional CMS uses and headless/multichannel uses. - Good integration capabilities: It integrates with external tools (CRM, e-commerce, etc.) and has a comprehensive API. - Relatively user-friendly interface for content authors/editors: The interface is highlighted as being fairly easy for users to learn.

What did you not like?

- Technical complexity: To take full advantage of Magnolia (customisation, integration, modular architecture), solid technical skills are required (Java, JCR, modular architecture). - Cost & licence: Although an open source version exists, for ‘enterprise’ use or with full services, it can become expensive. - Smaller community than some very popular CMSs: Some user feedback indicates that the community is active but not as large as for other solutions.

Which problems are you solving with the product?

Fragmented content / many systems Large organisations often have multiple websites, microsites, variations (brands, languages, countries) and legacy CMS platforms. For example, one firm had “over 6 legacy platforms” for its websites.

What did you like?

Magnolia CMS is a modern, cutting-edge, and business-oriented platform that provides a solid foundation for building advanced digital experiences. It offers a comprehensive set of tools for content management and personalization, enabling editors to create targeted pages based on segmentation, user profiles, and browsing history. The integrated AI accelerator further simplifies content creation, while Magnolia’s open-source nature allows for tailored customizations to meet specific business needs. Among its most valuable features is the ability to create shared repositories for managing content across multiple platforms, including websites, web apps, and mobile applications. Its intuitive and user-friendly interface makes it easy to create landing pages in just a few clicks, while offering real-time page previews that mirror the end-user experience. Magnolia CMS also stands out for its ability to manage multiple sites within the same platform and to support multilingual web applications, including the management of translated URLs. One of the most appreciated features among our clients is Live Copy, which allows teams to quickly clone sites and publish updates from the master site to all child sites with a single click, a major advantage for organizations managing multi-brand or multi-country ecosystems. Finally, the versatility of Magnolia CMS, which can be used either as a traditional CMS integrated with the front end or as a headless CMS within a composable architecture, makes it a truly enterprise-grade solution, capable of adapting to the specific needs of any digital project.

What did you not like?

The downside of Magnolia lies in the support; while prompt, it's not always effective or helpful. Furthermore there are a few areas that could be improved, for example, the removal of the double-click edit shortcut in version 6.3 made the editing process slightly less immediate or performance issues in editing mode and only in headless version

What did you like?

Product's developer-friendly approach. Available source code makes it the ultimate documentation. Flexible and extensible. New versions often aim the real issues rather than just "shiny" features.

What did you not like?

Reliance on JCR seems to be a little bit too "legacy". Especially in the context of cloud-native deployments. Headless support was retrofitted into the existing product so it's not ideal.

Which problems are you solving with the product?

Tight coupling between the non-technical business department responsible for the website's content and the IT department. With Magnolia website's content can be managed without the involvement of IT.

What did you like?

Magnolia can be used for a wide variety of projects. It has a lot of extension points and it has some handy security benefits. Being based on Java there is rich ecosystem of libraries that can be used to extend the core with custom functionality. The content editor experience is good.

What did you not like?

It is slow to start up and work with. Although it can be used for a wide variety of projects, it is almost never the 'best fit' for any project as many of the features are limited to specific use cases. Magnolia tries to be modern, but has to drag the weight of its history with it. It is not MACH at its core and it probably never will be. Updating an existing application has always been cumbersome in the past, as there is no semantic versioning and it isn't always clear that an update contains breaking changes.

Which problems are you solving with the product?

The in-page editing of Magnolia is great for our clients that have content driven web applications. We also successfully run a platform with 30 websites, each with their own set of users and publication rules and (decoupled) frontends.

What did you like?

I like how easy it is to use, I train people how to use it and they get it very quickly because it is simple to use. The fact that is WYSIWYG makes it great to use as you can see what you are building. It is also great that you can publish pages instantly once everything has been approved.

What did you not like?

The worst thing about Magnolia for me is that it doesn't have an undo button, so if I accidentally delete something on the page, I need to rebuild it as I cannot get it back... Magnolia's argument was that you roll back to different versions however this can only be achieved if you publish the page and no one is going to make one change and publish the page and then go back to make another change and publish again...

Which problems are you solving with the product?

We moved most of our sites over to Magnolia from a very outdated CMS and we have realised how much better a CMS can be and so much easier to use.

What did you like?

As a business partner developing solutions for our customer, I like to have a nice Admincentral where they can create content. I really like the WYSIWYG approach and the customizability. Moreover is Java based, which meets our stack.

What did you not like?

I don't like documentation, sometimes I find it a bit lacking of code examples, which might help a lot for customization, without the need of asking often for support.

Which problems are you solving with the product?

Definitely the multisite is a perfect solution for our customers, they can manage in one admincentral all the content for their websites and reuse it.

What did you like?

Its approach to handling internationalization and multisite allows you to manage languages in a more organized way than most CMSs.

What did you not like?

Many processes depend on the interface, such as the new image editing features. They are not very intuitive.

Which problems are you solving with the product?

We're primarily using it to improve coordination between the editing and publishing teams. This allows each group to be independent regarding what they see in the administration panel, thanks to user roles.

What did you like?

Magnolia helps us deliver great value to our end customers. The support is great, the new features delivered every release are super helpful. Our customers are always satisfied when they can transition away from another CMS to Magnolia's DXP.

What did you not like?

Due to the possibility of great customization, sometimes upgrades are potentially cumbersome. However, by gaining good knowledge of the product this remains always doable.

Which problems are you solving with the product?

We make marketing departments work more efficiently. We manage to optimize and minimize the time between idea and the shipping of this idea to the customer. By migrating towards Magnolia, our customers also have a wider range of out of the box functionalities available than they had on their previous solution. Also, we manage to surpress their current high costs (upgrades and maintenance related) by onboarding to Magnolia.

What did you like?

Working with Light Modules makes development and deployment of changes really straightforward; for most situations, for us, developing in Java is not required, but when it is, the modular monolith approach makes it quite straightforward. Support, on the few occasions needed, has been fantastic; responsive, knowledgable and able to resolve issues appropriately. Nearly everything is customisable or extensible so, unlike a lot of COTS products, we don't have to jump through too many hoops to customise to our user workflows, or even reject them as not supported.

What did you not like?

JCR - Working with a heirarchical data structure is great for organising content for CMS users but has proven to be the most challenging element to work with when customising.

Which problems are you solving with the product?

Magnolia replaced Umbraco for us; having great vendor support with regular updates and relatively easy integrations with in-house systems has proven to be a much better experience. Also, being able to write custom light modules, as SPA's, allows us to adhere to our architectural principle of loose coupling Frontend and Backend systems.

What did you like?

Composable architecture makes it easy to integrate with other systems and adapt to changing business needs. User-friendly content management allows teams to create, edit, and publish content without heavy developer involvement. Personalization and flexibility help deliver tailored digital experiences across multiple channels.

What did you not like?

Documentation and examples could be more detailed for advanced integrations. The authoring interface feels dated compared to newer headless CMS options. Performance can slow down with large content trees or heavy custom modules. Community resources are smaller than for some other CMS platforms, so finding answers can take time.

Which problems are you solving with the product?

Centralizing content management across multiple websites and digital channels. Streamlining content workflows so marketing and development teams can collaborate more efficiently. Delivering personalized experiences for different audiences and markets.

What did you like?

· Support offered by Magnolia is very close and valuable · Performance of platform in general is powerful · Backend interface for editors and administrators is very intuitive · Magnolia is open source, and permits a high customization

What did you not like?

· Lack of some basic web functionalities, like sitemap generator, module uninstaller, etc · Old Vaadin backend UI (in transition to modern frontend technologies) · Lack of out-of-the-box connectors with more platforms

Which problems are you solving with the product?

What did you like?

Both headless and traditional CMS supported: headless delivery via API's or classical CMS so very flexible in delivering content across multiple channels. Enterprise ready, good performance compared with the resources needed. Powerful admin interface. Flexible role/permissions architecture.

What did you not like?

Not suited for small websites. Smaller community and developer resources although the latest Magnolia Academy content is fixing that (for paid users).

Which problems are you solving with the product?

The best thing about Magnolia is its simplicity of installation and implementation, and the manufacturer's willingness to implement it. Once understood, the architecture is simple and easy to implement.

What did you like?

I like at Magnolia that it is a easy tool for client who don't have so much experience and knowledge. The client can do the content editing on her own and we can support where she needs help. Also there are a lot of templates and widgets that can be used to created new pages very quick. And the tool is enough for smaller pages where we don't need a very fancy customized page.

Developer-friendly experience, local development/demo instance is easy to set up in a matter of minutes. The WYSIWIG page editor offering the same user experience regardless the app being standard or headless. Whether at the Java code level or at the graphical interface level - The possibility to use Magnolia in Headless CMS mode - The robustness of the solution and the richness of the ecosystem (modules)

What did you like?

The editing interface is intuitive and well-structured, making it easier for editorial teams to work with preview and drag-and-drop functionalities. Magnolia allows you to create and organize content through a tree structure system that simplifies management and daily use for both editors and developers. Additionally, with the self-hosted version, you have the ability to better understand potential issues and resolve them independently.

What did you not like?

Many clients complain about the lack of a SaaS version, which makes it difficult to market the product. Additionally, simplifying editor customization would be necessary by removing Vaadin, introducing APIs, and adopting more modern and functional frameworks like React or Vue. Fortunately, this last point should finally be in progress. Some connectors for third-party integrations are still very immature and often require a complete overhaul.

Which problems are you solving with the product?

Over the years, we have provided our clients with an intuitive CMS that meets their needs while maintaining an excellent quality-to-price ratio.

What did you not like?

Which problems are you solving with the product?

What did you like?

What did you not like?

Which problems are you solving with the product?
