What is Inkscape?

Inkscape is a free open-source drawing program that offers numerous tools and various shapes, texts, markings, paths, and transparency effects. The program is compatible with the free SVG format, specifically developed for web graphics, but it can also import EPS, Postscript, JPG, PNG, BMP, or TIF images and export to PNG or other vector-based formats. Furthermore, the tool supports path-bound texts, object-fluent text, complex path operations, bitmap tracing, Creative Commons metadata, node editing, layers, direct XML editing, and much more. As a result, it is particularly suitable for creating logos, posters, banners, and technical drawings.
