AI in Canva: These New Features You Should Know

Whether you use Canva to create private wedding newspapers, teaching materials and project work at the campus, professional advertising material for your first own business, or in the marketing department of a global player - there is a good reason why Canva has become THE tool for graphic design: It is easy to use and extremely helpful even in the free version.

Especially in the home office and when working together with remote teams, it saves resources thanks to visual communication. The Canva team has been tinkering with AI features (functions based on artificial intelligence) since 2019 and now the time has come: We introduce you to the new Canva features in this article.

Why you should use AI in Canva

Can you remember the time when the few Photoshop professionals in your environment had to serve? With Canva everyone really becomes a professional designer. With a few clicks you create a file (e.g. documents and graphics) in an appealing design.

The Visual Worksuite from Canva includes a Brand Hub. Its features ensure constant visual identity. Users can create a brand kit with assets such as logo, font, color and design guidelines and manage assets for events, projects and campaigns with brand folders. For this purpose, they use templates (e.g., brand templates for email campaigns). An exchange via drives and other collaboration tools is therefore unnecessary.

1. Magic Edit

With a few clicks you remove or replace objects from or into a picture. Simply mark the corresponding element (see jug in the picture above) and, if necessary, type in what you want to replace it with (see purple flowers in the picture above). As you can see, the process is completed in two quick steps.

2. Magic Eraser

Your picture is too full and cluttered? With Canva you can not only exchange elements, but also erase elements (e.g. people in the background) with the digital eraser "Magic Eraser". To remove small objects (e.g. shadows) exactly, you can adjust the brush size. The function is integrated into the photo editor, allowing you to adjust colors, size and orientation directly and insert filters and effects. All of this works both on the PC and on the go with your iPhone.

3. Magic Write

Canva works with the AI developer OpenAI. The result - Magic Write - is your AI-supported writing assistant. It helps you to create texts quickly and easily. For this, you enter a specific command or use an existing text. It speeds up the brainstorming phase and text creation. With the Magic Write you can e.g. create website texts, Social Media Posts, SEO-Texts and business plans. It supports you when you don't know how to get started and generates e.g. sentences, paragraphs, lists and structures. Your writing assistant supports many languages such as German, English, Spanish, French, Polish, Indonesian, Turkish, Chinese and Arabic.

4. AI Image Generator

You can't find suitable images for your design in the media library? Then simply describe your idea. The AI Image Generator not only searches the existing database for a suitable image, it creates a new image based on your description. Using Machine-Learning images from the internet and the associated texts are scanned. The algorithms can recognize trends and learn from the context of other images and their texts. The available image styles include photos, patterns, 3D images and drawings as well as "Surprise me". You can then insert the image into your design and edit it with the photo editor.

5. Beat Sync

Thanks to Canva, you can create a professional voiceover in no time at all. In the video editor, you can for example cut videos and insert images and illustrations. The beat synchronization automatically adjusts clips, footage and animations to the rhythm of your background music. This way, your videos will also be harmonious and dynamic in terms of sound. With Beat Sync you can, for example, synchronize videos with music beats for your reels and slideshows. As you can see, professional video editing with Canva is done in just four steps: Select template or upload your video material, add music, synchronize sound and perfect your video creatively. Canva supports all common file formats such as MP4, MOV, MKV, WEBM, and MPEG.

6. Translation

With the Translation function you can, for example, translate project presentations and your social media posts (leave). First, Canva duplicates the page to be translated, leaving your original text intact. The default setting "Adjust font size to fit the space" ensures that your professional design remains intact. The function is based on machine learning and aims to achieve the most precise and natural result possible. The language selection is extensive. These include European, North, Central and South American, Asian and African languages.

7. Magic Expand

Enlarge your picture in any direction and create the perfect shot. Correct unfavorable picture sections, save zoomed in pictures or convert portrait into landscape - everything in just a few seconds.

8. Magic Grab

With Magic Grab you design pictures just as easily as a Canva template. Use Magic Grab to select a photo motif and position it freely, edit it, reposition it or change its size.

The new Canva functions make automation and simplicity successful collaboration at an international level possible.
