Small disclaimer upfront, if Conversion Magic doesn't mean anything to you: This article revolves around the SEO Contest 2023 by Agencytip.com. In this, one optimizes for a fictitious search term and tracks who manages to rank within the given time.

This year's competition for "Conversionzauber" started on Tuesday, 25.04.2023 at 11 AM. The winning website was the one which took the best ranking on Google on Wednesday, 24.05.2023, at 11 AM. There was a registration deadline, which expired on May 10, 2023. As I only learned about the contest today, May 11, at around 9 PM, I can no longer officially sign up myself or OMR. The prizes to be won do not interest me anyway, or rather, many of the prizes bring me nothing. We at OMR already use Neuroflash (places 1 and 2) and Seobility (places 1 to 3). Both tools are by the way number 1 in their respective categories on our OMR Reviews platforms and have very good ratings with 4.7 and 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Over the past few weeks, my entire focus was simply on the OMR Festival. But I still optimised on the keyword Conversionzauber for fun and see if I can still get into the top positions despite a late start and without registration.

I will give regular updates on what measures I have taken in my optimisation and how the rankings of omr.com towards the keyword "Conversionzauber" are developing. Just under 13 days to go...

Ok, now step by step. First I should put "Conversionzauber" in the usual areas, so Title and Meta-Description. Our comprehensive guide reveals proven strategies, secrets and tips for magical conversion optimization." Well. I am optimizing the content of the page ongoing, so I won't go into that further. The second point also refers to the actual page content.

Will I convince other websites to link to this article? I'm not so sure about that, but at least I can sprinkle the article in various places within omr.com. Maybe I can also get my Podstars and FinanceForward colleagues to give me a backlink from podstars.de or financefwd.com.

Whether social media really helps push the rankings, I don't know. But ok, if the AI says so, then I guess I'll have to write on LinkedIn in the next few days that I'm participating in this SEO Contest - without being registered.

Regarding point 5 I unfortunately can't do anything because we don't have a comment function in our ContentHub. But I could ask our developers regardless of the Conversionzauber competition if we should implement this feature. Such feedback or comments from readers can also help us make the content even better and thus literally enchant our conversion rate.

There is the official keyword tracking on the Conversion Magic competition page. However, omr.com is not taken into account there, so I set up my own tracking via the Keyword Tracking Provider keyword.com. Currently there are of course no rankings (see below); the URL has only existed for half an hour. I'd be surprised if crawling, indexing and ranking the page worked that quickly. I'll check it again just before going to bed. Otherwise I hope that I'll be greeted with a ranking for Conversion Magic tomorrow morning - even if it's in the lower positions.

It's 0:43 AM and I'm still awake because I wanted to know how long it takes Google to finally index this URL. And tada! It's in - in the index. But still no sign of ranking. I'm going to bed now and dreaming of Conversion Magic, which will make this URL climb many more positions in the SERPs!

When I saw that, I found it a pity that I couldn't participate in the contest, so I wrote to Alexander Walz, the managing director of Agenturtipp.de, on LinkedIn asking if he could still add omr.com afterwards. He declined the subsequent participation.

At 10:45 AM I received the first "fan mail": Helle from tolingo.com wrote me an email saying that she followed the rise of omr.com on the keyword "Conversionzauber" within a few hours and was very impressed. She asked for a link to their page and because I'm a nice guy, she gets it. I deliberately choose a bad anchor text and of course the link is nofollow, but perhaps there is still a bit of traffic and attention. It was not so nice that Helle asked me to remove the link to DM again - but that would be mean! 😄☝🏻

Addendum 19. May 2023: I have removed the links from DM and Tolingo after both ranked on position 1 and 2 for the first evaluation deadline. I think both don't need the backlink support anymore :D

The weekend up to 15. May 2023

Directly after the day of my big Conversion Magic rise there was the first small damper to see: From place 1 on 14. Possible explanation: Google has perceived the new URL from omr.com as "newsig" and pushed it directly to the top. Maybe also because the big OMR23 Festival took place in the same week. That Conversionzauber is an independent topic and has nothing to do with the festival, is probably a bit hard to grasp for the bot.

On Sunday everything settled down a bit: Back from exile and back to 4th place! Fitting the second SERP rise there was again fan mail; this time via LinkedIn. However, I am a bit sceptical whether the "fans" only come because I linked to the first request and now everyone wants a backlink. At least that was part of Silvia's message: "If you're still giving links to other Underdog participants, of course I'd be super happy (even for weird anchor texts)."

I'd make it a bit more exciting at this point: Instead of linking the article directly, I'd simply ask you to search in the SERPs (currently on page 2) for the website winwithwords.nl. The text is very readable and sympathetically written. If many go this way and jump from my Conversion Magic article back into the Google search and then land at Silvia's post on winwithwords.nl, then that should also have an effect on the ranking: The user signals on my URL would drop, while they rise on the other URL. For the experiment, I'll gladly take the potential ranking loss. Anyone who has read this and participated in the experiment can send me a short message on LinkedIn, so I know roughly how many clicks were generated. The article about "SEO Contest" written with AI has also started ranking very quickly, but not in the top positions. Since Friday, the URL https://omr.com/de/daily/glossary/seo-contest/ has been ranking between position 12 and 16. Maybe I need to bring in a personal touch here to conjure up the ranking analogously to this article in the top positions.

Regardless of the Conversionzauber SEO Contest, I am currently considering whether we should not also start our own contest at OMR. We already have contacts to many attractive SEO Tools and other service providers in the industry, so we could certainly put on a competition that offers more and higher prized prizes than any SEO Contest that has ever existed in Germany before. Announced. Who wants to be there - whether as a participant or as a sponsor - just write on LinkedIn.

According to keyword.com, omr.com has been ranking on position 1 again since today by the way. We are on position 2 on the official Content website. I am waiting for your fan mail! 😄

A new day, a new roller coaster ride of Conversion Magic rankings: It's down for OMR to 9. After a closer analysis, I noticed that there is a certain balance with the also quite new site on Conversionzauber at Semtrix. When OMR falls in the ranking, Semtrix rises and vice versa:

Google seems to be testing a lot here. In the end, it could be pure luck who is at the top on the respective evaluation dates (19., 22. and 24. May). It's also nice that tolingo.com, which I linked to from this post on 12.5. (see above), is back in the top 10. The link is a nofollow link, but maybe Google gives a backlink from another strong page (analogous to Wikipedia links) a value after all. What are your thoughts?

T-2 days until the first deadline

Today, 17.5., the ranking of OMR has gone up one place. Not as magical therefore. I am working on this URL again in terms of content today. The meta-description generated by ChatGPT is no longer fitting. This Conversionzauber post has developed in the direction of a diary, so that should also be reflected in the meta-tags.

I have just written the meta-tags very pompously; maybe it provokes one or the other reader*in and generates more clicks in the visible SERPs as a result. Take look manually in the source code or check title and meta-description with an SEO tool of your choice, e.g. SEO META IN 1 CLICK. Of course, we at OMR don't destroy anything or anyone here - I also don't think we or I are better than other Conversionzauber content participants. It's just supposed to bring a bit of swing.

Personally, I'm a firm believer that you're more likely to achieve things if you manifest them. So I manifest the number 1 spot in the contest:

Father's day or also t-1 day

Yesterday's new meta tags were probably a bit too much of a good thing. Today - on holiday - the rankings for OMR went downhill sharply! Only position 30 left. Ups. Do I have another secret spell in stock, with which I can still catapult the position up? Abrakadabra...

It remains exciting, because also the other competitors are wild to rotate. There are only a few who can hold themselves at the top for a long time. Not only music plays here, but also magic plays an important role. All webmasters are pulling out their SEO magic skills and optimizing their pages until even the greatest wizard turns to stone.

Tomorrow at 11 am is the first deadline for evaluation, which counts for 15% of the final calculation. I still hope to hit a ranking for the Conversionzauber tomorrow morning, even if it's not going to be there.

First Conversionzauber Evaluation Day

Today is the first day of the Content evaluation. At 11 am the rankings were measured and will be calculated in the final competition evaluation with 15%. Unfortunately, OMR.com is not in the top 10 (currently 14th place; at least 16 positions better than yesterday). It is interesting to note that the two sites are in first and second place, which I linked here in the first days: DM and Tolingo. Whether this is coincidence or has to do with the backlinks (which I have just removed - sorry!), is difficult to evaluate. In any case it remains exciting because still there are daily extreme variations in the Conversionzauber-SERPs.

The Conversionzauber Finale, t-1 Day

Yesterday was the second deadline, which counts 25% in the final evaluation. With place 13 I haven't been able to collect points again. Tomorrow, 24.05., is the last big evaluation at 11 am. This would be the last chance to collect some points - although I have read on the official Content website that non-registered websites are skipped in the points distribution. So OMR.com would not collect any points even in the Top 10 - but for the own (S)EgO that would be, of course, still super.

My first learning from the contest: Don't change the Title and Meta-Description shortly before important deadlines! :)

Final word

In this last paragraph I write another general text about the SEO Contest 2023. As described above I started very late with the optimization for Conversionzauber but hope that I still can come into the rankings. And if not, it's not so bad - the next contest will come definitely. Would be cool, though, if someone sends me a reminder or an invitation to it on LinkedIn, so it doesn't fall through the cracks again!
