Virtual machine management that fits into the daily workflow

Was gefällt dir am besten?

Fast VM provisioning Convenient resource management Less repetitive host-level administration Good fit for hosting and infrastructure teams Reasonable balance between functionality and complexity

Was gefällt dir nicht?

Advanced networking and storage scenarios can require additional work Documentation could have more examples for unusual configurations

Welche Probleme löst du mit dem Produkt?

VMmanager is one of those tools that is most useful when you stop having to think about the tool itself. We use it for the regular VM workload: creating machines, changing resources, adjusting configurations and handling routine lifecycle operations. Instead of logging into different hosts and repeating the same procedures manually, engineers can work through a common management layer. That is probably the biggest benefit for us. It doesn't replace the need for virtualization knowledge, but it removes a lot of unnecessary host-level work. The learning curve is reasonable if you're already familiar with virtualization. The more complicated part starts when you get into unusual combinations of networking, storage and other infrastructure settings. Those cases may require additional investigation, and I would like to see more practical examples in the documentation. We also looked at more heavyweight virtualization platforms. They can make sense for large enterprise environments, but for our requirements they introduced more complexity than we needed. VMmanager gives us the functionality we actually use without turning VM administration into another large infrastructure project.
