ChatGPT has long since ceased to be an insiders' tip for work in the office, at university or at home. Even for AI image generation the software is now usable. But what if you're on the go and need spontaneous text and image ideas? For such a case, we show you in this article how to use ChatGPT on your mobile phone and answer the question if there's also an app for iOS and Android.
Update of March 19, 2024: Originally there was no official app for Android and iOS, which you could use to access ChatGPT on your mobile phone. However, corresponding apps have now appeared in the App Store and Google Play Store. For both versions – mobile browser and smartphone app – we provide you with a step-by-step guide below.

Using ChatGPT on the smartphone - here's how!

Basically, using ChatGPT on your phone works just the same way as on your desktop. The only requirement is an internet connection. Simply follow these steps to use the AI tool via smartphone:

  • Step 1: Open your smartphone browser and call up the tool’s page at chat.openai.com.
  • Step 2: Click on “Log in” and log in with your account details.
  • Step 3: That's it! After you have logged in, you can use ChatGPT on your smartphone, just like you do on your PC or Mac. The website is responsive and automatically adapts to your smartphone display.

Using ChatGPT App on smartphone

  • Step 1: Download ChatGPT in the App Store or in the Google Play Store, depending on whether you use an iPhone or Android device.
  • Step 2: Like in the browser, you can log in with your credentials in the app as well.
  • Step 3: Done! Just like the desktop version, the ChatGPT app has all features - from text to image creation in the premium version.

Registering for ChatGPT on smartphone

To be able to use ChatGPT at all, you first need to register with your email address. If you don't have an account yet, you can easily do that on your smartphone as well:
  • Step 1: Open your smartphone browser and go to chat.openai.com.
  • Step 2: Click on “Sign Up” and then enter the email address under which you want to register your account.
  • Step 3: In the next step you need to choose a password. The only requirement: The password has to be at least 8 characters long. For a much higher degree of security, we recommend using a password manager, which not only allows you to save all your passwords, but also generate complex and unique passwords.
  • Step 4: After you have chosen your password, OpenAI will send a confirmation email to your email address. Click on the link in the email to confirm your registration.
  • Step 5: After clicking on the confirmation link, ChatGPT will ask for your name and phone number.
  • Step 6: Having given your phone number, you will receive a registration number via SMS. Enter this in the browser to register your phone as a device for ChatGPT.
  • Step 7: That's it! You can now log in with your details as described above and use ChatGPT on your smartphone.
