What did you like?
Besonders interessant ist die Möglichkeit, einzelne APIs zu lizenzieren. Diese Flexibilität im Composable Commerce-Modell erlaubt es, nur für die Funktionen zu zahlen, die tatsächlich benötigt werden, anstatt für ein gesamtes System.
Mit Emporix kann eine zentrale Plattform für alle relevanten Kanäle (B2B, B2C, D2C, B2E …) sowie für verschiedene Länder und Sprachen entwickelt werden. Komponenten können einfach wiederverwendet werden und Länder-Rollouts sind mit vergleichsweise wenig Aufwand schnell umgesetzt.
Im Vergleich zu anderen Shop-Technologien stellt die Orchestration Engine von Emporix eine Besonderheit dar. Sie ist eine integrierte No Code/Low Code Umgebung, die Prozesse auf architektonischer Ebene vom Rest abstrahiert. Damit kann das ganze „Composable Commerce Universum“ an einer zentralen Stelle orchestriert werden – und das auch ohne Code. Es erfordert zwar ein bisschen Eingewöhnung, aber künftig soll das Ganze auch noch einfacher per Prompt funktionieren.
Aus Compliance-Sicht ist die Orchestration Engine ebenfalls sehr sinnvoll, da sie – durch ihr Design – automatisch eine immer aktuelle Dokumentation der Zusammenhänge und Datenflüsse erstellt. Zusätzlich gibt es ein Audit Log, das alle durchgeführten Aktionen und mögliche Fehler festhält.
Das Entwicklungsteam von Emporix arbeitet eng mit den Service Integrators zusammen und bietet schnelle und effektive Unterstützung. Die Reaktionszeiten sind ausgezeichnet.
Nach über einem Jahr der Nutzung kann ich sagen, dass es bisher noch keine Breaking Changes gab. Ältere Funktionen werden weiterhin unterstützt, wodurch der Aufwand für regelmäßige Upgrades prinzipiell entfällt.
What did you not like?
Das Backoffice-UI könnte an einigen Stellen modernisiert werden, um die Benutzerfreundlichkeit weiter zu steigern. Obwohl es funktional ist, gibt es Potenzial, die Oberfläche noch intuitiver und ansprechender zu gestalten. Laut dem Emporix Team wird daran aber bereits gearbeitet.
Ein weiteres Thema ist das Hosting. Emporix selbst ist SaaS und bietet natürlich alle Funktionen sauber cloudbasiert an. Individuelle Microservices oder auch das Frontend selbst müssen in Eigenregie gehostet werden. Einige Kunden wollen allerdings auch genau das. Für alle anderen haben wir inzwischen innerhalb der FIS-Gruppe ein spezielles Hosting-Paket für Emporix Storefronts und Microservices entwickelt.

Zusammengefasst: Kostenersparnis, Effizienz und Reduzierung der Komplexität.
Die Möglichkeit, nur die tatsächlich benötigten Funktionen zu lizenzieren, führt zu deutlichen Kosteneinsparungen im Vergleich zu monolithischen Systemen, die man komplett lizensieren muss, auch wenn man nur einen Bruchteil der Funktionen braucht.
In diesem Zusammenhang ist es auch erwähnenswert, dass mit Emporix neue, zielgerichtete Features deutlich schneller entwickelt werden können als die Anpassung bestehender Funktionen in monolithischen Systemen. Auch hier ist also die Entwicklung in Summe günstiger. Darüber hinaus kommen sich verteilte Teams mit Emporix und einer sauberen Architektur selten in die Quere. Sie können effizient und technologieunabhängig in ihren jeweiligen Domänen arbeiten.
Im Kontext von Composable Commerce und dem Best-of-Breed-Ansatz ist es nicht zu leugnen, dass dies mitunter zu einer gewissen Komplexität in der IT-Landschaft führen kann. Mit der Orchestration Engine hat Emporix jedoch eine elegante und einfache Lösung entwickelt, um den Überblick zu behalten und die Systeme bei Bedarf auf wirklich schnell austauschen zu können.

Clear APIs. Well documented endpoints with examples. Possibility to extend data model. Possibility to convince Emporix to add functionality added by us (and useful for other customers)

Some (a lot of) functionality is new and it is early stage of life - some missing bits, some bugs.

B2B webshop. Typical shop functionality (serach, display, sell) and typical B2B like integration with backoffice systems (ERP, salesforce).

What did you like?
Being part of the RPA initiative with the Emporix Team has been a really rewarding experience. The impact to the Customer Service team has been tremendous, driving efficiency and allowing us to better support our customers!
What did you not like?
As with any new implementation, there were some learning curves and adjustments needed along the way, but these were expected and have improved over time.
Which problems are you solving with the product?
We’re solving the challenge of having to manually enter orders, which used to take a lot of time and could lead to errors and delays. With Emporix/RPA, we’ve been able to speed things up, cut down on manual work, and make the process a lot more accurate by focusing only on exceptions.
