In 2014 Estonia was the first country in the world to launch e-Residency, a government issued digital ID card which enables digital signature as well as online formation and running of EU-based companies. To-date Estonia’s e-Residency has attracted a global community of 101,000 entrepreneurs, freelancers and startup founders, including over 6,000 German nationals. Last year, Estonia broke the world record in fastest company establishment in 15 minutes and 33 seconds. The country also boasts an active startup community with 10 unicorn companies ($1 bn valuation) having grown out of Estonia.
