International star chef joins host and star German chef Tim Mälzer to talk nutrition, education, shared glory days and Jamie's new book.
This episode of the OMR podcast is a special crossover episode with our friends at Fiete Gastro, the OMR-produced culinary podcast hosted by star German chef Tim Mälzer. Fiete Gastro features Mälzer, his co-host Sebastian Merget and a special guest from across the culinary world—sometimes it’s a star chef, sometimes a successful restaurateur and sometimes a food ambassador. In the case of this episode’s guest it’s all three—today it’s none other than Jamie Oliver!
Jamie Oliver hardly needs any introduction. Although he has a collection of successful restaurants, various culinary product ranges and lines of kitchen utensils around the world, his greatest successes have arguably come outside of the kitchen. Over the course of his 20-year career in TV and media, Jamie has raised global awareness for food, nutrition and wellness, inspired millions to cook fresh, delicious and healthy food themselves and promoted healthy lifestyles. Furthermore, he consistently uses his platform to lobby for and enact political change through a variety of campaigns including a blanket ban on junk-food ads directed at kids, restricting the sale of energy drinks to children under 16, lobbying for improved quality of school cafeteria food and reaching the ambitious goal of halving childhood obesity in his native UK by 2030.
Jamie was recently in Berlin, where he met up with his old friend Tim Mälzer. The pair have known each other since their kitchen days in London a couple of decades ago when they were both just starting out. While Jamie is international food royalty—and since 2003 a Member of the Order of the British Empire, Mälzer is a star in Germany with a slew of successes as a restaurateur, author and has a successful TV show in his own right, Kitchen Impossible.
In Fiete Gastro, Oliver and Mälzer discuss nutrition and education, how they got to where they are now, reminisce about their London days with all sorts of anecdotes from the kitchen and talk in-depth about Jamie’s new cookbook, Veggies.
